Granite River Labs Announces Plans to Develop for IoTivity and Help Connect Billions of Devices

Expands GRL Test Solutions Leadership for Emerging IoT Standards

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for high speed connectivity today announced that the company was selected to help develop and support IoTivity, an open source project enabling seamless device-to-device connectivity to address the emerging needs of the Internet of Things.  IoTivity is sponsored by the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF), a consortium of industry-leading companies working to unlock the massive opportunity in the Internet of Things market, accelerate industry innovation, and help developers and companies create solutions that map to a single open specification.

The “Internet of Things”, or “IoT”, continues to evolve as a fast-growing network of interfaces that allow devices to be sensed and/or controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure. The IoT encompasses a diverse range of applications including smart grids, smart homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities.

OCF develops technical specifications and sponsors an open source project, IoTivity, to make it possible for billions of connected devices to communicate with one another regardless of manufacturer, operating system, chipset or physical transport.  IoTivity is an open source software framework enabling seamless device-to-device connectivity to address the emerging needs of the IoT.  The scope of GRL’s engagement with OCF includes IoTivity quality assurance and maintenance addressing Static and Dynamic Analysis, API, and protocol, as well as ensuring interoperability testing.

GRL is already a leading provider of IoT Test Automation Solutions and Services that help product developers unlock the potential of these technologies.  GRL entered the IoT space in 2014 when the Thread Group selected GRL to develop the official Thread test harness, an integrated software and hardware automation tool utilized by Thread product developers to test the Thread protocol stack (read the press release).

“The IoTivity project was created to bring together the open source community to accelerate the development of the framework and services required to connect these billions of devices,” said Kathleen Kovatch, Chair, IoTivity ISG.   “GRL will provide critical support to help enable IoTivity to deliver an open source reference implementation of OCF Specifications.”

“GRL is proud to have been selected by OCF in this important effort to support IoTivity proliferation,” said Vamshi Kandalla, Vice President and General Manager of Granite River Labs.  “We will leverage our expertise in IOT test automation solutions and are committed to providing OCF adopters with robust and reliable tools to help them release their products to market with confidence.”
