Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for high speed connectivity, today announced availability of USB Power Delivery Compliance Test Software, GRL-USB-PD. The world’s first oscilloscope-based software tool designed for testing to the USB Power Delivery (PD) specification, GRL-USB-PD provides an automated, simple, and efficient way to perform USB PD electrical parametric and protocol measurements. GRL-USB-PD works with all Keysight Infiniium real-time oscilloscopes, as well as all classes of Tektronix oscilloscopes. Support for other oscilloscope platforms is planned.
Live demonstrations will be available at DesignCon expo booth #1148, January 28 and 29, Santa Clara, CA.
The USB Power Delivery Specification enables the maximum functionality of USB by providing more flexible power delivery along with data over a single cable — up to 100W power at 20V in either direction. For all new designs using the new USB Type-C Connector, the USB PD Specification provides the control mechanism for power delivery, as well as entry and exit from other technologies that have adopted USB PD ‘alt modes’, including DisplayPort and MHL.
GRL-USB-PD provides an essential analysis and compliance tool for the design, debug, and compliance testing of any USB Power Delivery or Type-C design. GRL-USB-PD automates USB Power Delivery Bi-Phase Mark Coded (BMC) physical layer compliance eye mask and parametric testing, USB PD protocol decode and compliance, and electronic mark (“e-mark”) compliance tests for active USB Type-C cables and adaptors. GRL-USB-PD features will be updated as USB PD compliance test requirements continue to evolve.
“We are excited to offer GRL’s USB Power Delivery test solution through Tektronix’ sales channels,” said Brian Reich, General Manager, Performance Oscilloscopes at Tektronix. “Since USB Power Delivery is now more complex than it has been in the past, test solutions such as GRL-USB-PD are critical to efficiently debugging and validating new USB Power Delivery ICs and system designs.”
“The updated USB Power Delivery specification is an exciting addition to the USB ecosystem and will open up a broad range of USB applications that haven’t been possible until now,” said Mike Engbretson, Chief Technology Engineer for Granite River Labs. “GRL is proud to have taken a leadership role in the emerging USB Power Delivery ecosystem, providing a critical tool to help adopters release USB PD products to the market with confidence.”
“We are pleased to partner with Granite River Labs to support the emerging USB Power Delivery and Type-C ecosystem,” said Dave Cipriani, VP and GM, Oscilloscope and Protocol Division at Keysight Technologies. “GRL’s USB Power Delivery software will provide a necessary edge in bringing designs implementing USB Type-C connector to market.”
