Development follows VESA’s recognition of GRL as a testing and certification provider for products based on the latest DisplayPort DP40 and DP80 UHBR cable standards
Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity, and Wieson Technologies, a leader in interconnect components, wireless, and automotive electronics, have announced the first DisplayPort 40Gbps (DP40) cable to use a DP full size connector under the new UHBR (Ultra-high Bit Rate) Certification Program administered by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®). Certification testing was performed at GRL’s DisplayPort Authorized Test Center (ATC) in Taipei, Taiwan in accordance with product compliance standards established by VESA.
VESA certified DP40 and DP80 UHBR cables guarantee display connectivity and operation at the highest performance levels introduced with DisplayPort 2.0. VESA certified DP40 cables must support up to the UHBR10 link rate (10 Gigabits per second or Gbps) defined by DisplayPort 2.0, and support full four-lane operation, providing a maximum throughput of 40 Gbps. VESA certified DP80 cables must support up to the UHBR20 link rate (20 Gbps) defined by DisplayPort 2.0, with four lanes, providing a maximum throughput of 80 Gbps.
“As digital interfaces and charging technologies are getting faster, more complex, and increasingly challenging to test, GRL’s affordable end-to-end testing, certification and compliance services are the glue that brings technology ecosystems together,” said Holger Kunz, President of Worldwide Services Granite River Labs. “Working closely with influential standards organizations like VESA and manufacturers such as Wieson Technologies, GRL helps to accelerate development, simplify production and provide global consumers all over the world with the confidence that they can rely on products to perform and interoperate.”
"Wieson Technologies continues to develop and innovate, and we are committed to pushing the boundaries of high-frequency and high-speed transmission technology,” said Jeff Chen, CEO of Wieson Technologies. “We focus on wired and wireless components and automotive electronic products under our own brand and through ODMs. GRL has helped us achieve our goal of moving from being a player in competitive electronic component and product design and manufacturing services to become the preferred solution provider for intelligent application technology, offering high-quality customer services and partnership to customers.”
“GRL’s expertise in test and measurement and Wieson’s experience in developing manufacturable high-speed interconnect components made them important contributors to VESA’s UHBR cable implementation and certification specifications,” said Jim Choate, compliance program manager for VESA. “VESA certified DP40 and DP80 cables will provide a solid foundation for a reliable UHBR ecosystem that will be launched in the near future, paving the way for higher-performance video and display products supported by the latest DisplayPort specification.”
