GRL will continue to contribute to WPC activities and help the consortium expand into new markets

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity and charging, has announced that its Chief Strategy Officer, Vamshi Kandalla, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Wireless Power Consortium, Inc. (WPC).

With more than 350 member companies, the WPC maintains and develops standards for a variety of wireless power applications including Qi, the world’s de facto wireless charging standard for providing 5-15 watts of power to small personal electronics. A longstanding WPC supporter, GRL provides Qi wireless charging product certification test services, develops Qi wireless charging compliance test automation solutions, and actively contributes to the development and expansion of the Qi wireless charging standard into new applications such as automotive and Light Electric Vehicle (LEV). GRL will continue to contribute to WPC initiatives aimed at transforming the wireless power landscape.

A semiconductor industry veteran, Kandalla will leverage his expertise in automotive, consumer electronics, IoT, and GRL’s capabilities to help WPC develop new standards that address the needs of these markets, and strengthen partnerships with other standards groups including OPEN Alliance, the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA), Avnu, and MIPI. Before joining GRL, Kandalla was the head of Symmetricom’s Global Embedded Solutions Division where he was responsible for global marketing, product management, technical management and business creation. He has also held leadership positions with Applied Micro (now MACOM), MosChip Technologies, and Standard Microsystems (now Microchip).

“GRL is a firm believer in WPC’s vision of enabling worldwide compatibility of wireless chargers and power sources,” said Kandalla. “As a board member, I am determined to play a part in making it a reality through a transparent wireless charging standard that supports rigorous quality, safety, and interoperability requirements, as well as a regulatory framework that enables easy wireless charging technology integration and cost-effective solutions.”

“WPC’s members represent a wide range of applications and end markets,” said Paul Struhsaker, Executive Director of Wireless Power Consortium. “The WPC and our 350+ member companies are committed to continuing to grow this market by delivering differentiated and affordable products. We expect that Vamshi will make a significant contribution towards achieving our vision and we welcome him as a WPC board member.”
