GRL Presents: 10BASE-T1S Test Environment at AEC 2025

Following our demonstration at Automotive Ethernet Congress 2025 in Munich, Granite River Labs (GRL) is excited to bring our latest 10BASE-T1S testing environment to the upcoming Automotive Ethernet Summit China 2025 in Shanghai. 

Happening in April, the event will witness GRL showcasing cutting-edge Ethernet testing solutions and real-world methodologies such as PMA-RX testing and Multi-Gig TC10 Sleep/Wake testing through the use of advanced tools, including Rohde & Schwarz MXO 5, TSN Systems TSN-Box V3.2, and Aukua MGA2510.

Here’s a sneak peek into the Automotive Ethernet test solutions that we will be presenting at AES Shanghai 2025, alongside industry leaders, manufacturers, and engineers who are looking to validate network performance according to the latest standards.

 

Advanced 10BASE-T1S testing environment

At its core, the GRL's 10BASE-T1S testing platform showcases single-pair Ethernet technology, a key component of cost-effective automotive networking. Through real-time video streaming validation from source devices to node displays, engineers can verify network performance under practical conditions.

Central to this testing environment is the PMA-ARIC (Physical Medium Attachment - Automotive Real-time Interface Controller) solution, which integrates several key components:

  • A 10BASE-T1S controller with integrated PHY, providing the foundation for comprehensive signal testing
  • An FM noise generator coupled with a GIL (Galvanic Isolation Link) injection board for interference testing
  • A specialized data sniffer that enables real-time analysis of Traffic Shaping and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN)

With this integrated approach, engineers gain the ability to decode and inspect individual Ethernet frames, making it possible to verify data transmission accuracy and diagnose potential network issues in automotive applications.

 

Testing tools for comprehensive network analysis

Built into the testing platform, Wireshark packet analysis enables direct frame decoding on 10BASE-T1S networks. Engineers monitoring network traffic benefit from this integration, particularly when ensuring compliance with TSN requirements in time-critical automotive applications.

Further enhancing system capabilities, Rohde & Schwarz's 10BASE-T1S decoder delivers:

  • Direct connectivity to 10BASE-T1S pins for detailed signal analysis
  • Comprehensive frame decoding at both PMA and bit levels, enabling engineers to identify and resolve transmission issues at their source
  • Advanced measurement capabilities for thorough signal interpretation

 

Multi-Gigabit ethernet validation

Within the 10GBASE-T1 evaluation system, robust validation capabilities emerge through:

  • A Multi-Gig Automotive solution implementing TC10 mechanisms to test and verify sleep/wake operations as defined by OPEN Alliance
  • Advanced PHY controller to setup and control TC10 DUT via SMI.
  • The Aukua Exerciser tool for generating and receiving high-speed Ethernet frames

Through an intuitive web-based interface, engineers gain access to detailed monitoring of frame transmission, pause mechanism control, and interruption measurement. Such capabilities prove essential when optimizing both performance and power efficiency in modern automotive networks.
