GRL Japan is the first ATL approved by WPC to provide test certification services for the full range of Qi 2.1 specifications.

Granite River Labs (“GRL”), a global leader in test and certification services and automated test solutions for digital connectivity and charging technologies, and professional market access services, continues to expand its wide range of pre-certification and test certification services with the Wireless Power Consortium’s (WPC) official recognition of GRL Japan as the first Authorized Test Lab (ATL) to support testing of all Qi 2.1 profiles. This is in addition to GRL's Taiwan and Santa Clara labs that already offer certification testing for the Qi wireless charging standard. Manufacturers and developers of wireless charging products can now access comprehensive compliance support globally.

Qi 2.1 is the latest update to the WPC’s wireless charging standard, introducing a standardized 15W charging speed—an upgrade from the previous variable range of 5W to 15W. It implements new features such as the Active Alignment Power Profile (APP) and Magnetic Cover enhancements, which enable more precise power delivery, improved spatial alignment, and increased energy efficiency across diverse device categories including smartphones, wearables, and accessories.

GRL Japan now provides Qi 2.1 test certification services for:

  • Base Power Profile (BPP)
  • Extended Power Profile (EPP)
  • Magnetic Power Profile (MPP)
  • Active Alignment Power Profile (APP)
  • Magnetic Cover Power Enhancement (MCPE)
  • Magnetic Cover Power Magnet (MCPM)

GRL Japan is not only the first ATL approved for all Qi 2.1 specifications but also the only lab authorized for official APP testing. This achievement supports industries such as automotive, industrial design, semiconductors, and battery technology by providing manufacturers with streamlined access to certification and compliance testing. Combining deep testing expertise with technical know-how from its test tool development, GRL Japan brings together precision-driven engineering and Japan’s commitment to quality. This milestone accelerates adoption of next-generation wireless power technologies and strengthens Japan’s global competitiveness in the wireless ecosystem.

This development follows the official approval by the WPC for GRL Transmitter (GRL-C3-MP-TPR) and Receiver (GRL-C3-TPT) tools to cover testing across all Qi 2.1 power profiles, as well as all device types including transmitters, receivers, and cases. Building on this achievement, GRL is already developing a test solution for the upcoming Qi 2.2 specification and remains committed to supporting its rollout with high-quality testing solutions and services.

“GRL is committed to strengthening the Qi ecosystem through our expertise in test services and standards development. By expanding our Qi 2.1 testing capabilities, we are helping to ensure a more resilient, interoperable, and future-ready wireless charging landscape,” said Holger Kunz, President of Worldwide Services at GRL. “As a global leader in compliance and high-speed digital testing, we enable manufacturers worldwide to bring reliable, next-generation wireless power solutions to market. Looking ahead, we are preparing to support Qi 2.2 and its 25W power profile, reaffirming our commitment to supporting the wireless charging industry as it evolves.”
