GRL and ASUS Announce the First Monitor to Receive DisplayHDR 1000 Certification

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity, and ASUS, a global leader in consumer display technology, today announced the ASUS ProArt PA32UCX monitor as the world’s first display to achieve DisplayHDR 1000 certification under the latest version (1.1) of the High-Performance Monitor and Display Compliance Test Specification (DisplayHDR) administered by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®). Certification testing was performed at GRL’s DisplayPort Authorized Test Center (ATC) in Taipei, Taiwan in accordance with product compliance standards established by VESA.

DisplayHDR is the display industry’s first fully open standard specifying high dynamic range (HDR) quality. Released in 2019, version 1.1 introduced substantially tighter performance requirements, including for luminance and color gamut, as well as new test requirements such as active dimming, to address recent advances in HDR technology.

“GRL is proud to serve as an important technical resource for DisplayHDR adopters, and we are thrilled to contribute ASUS’s success with this groundbreaking display,” said Quintin Anderson, Co-Founder and COO of Granite River Labs. “While offering extraordinary performance updates, DisplayHDR 1.1 presents significant design challenges, such as managing power consumption and thermal dissipation while maintaining true-to-life visual accuracy and stable, reliable performance. GRL congratulates ASUS on their achievement.”

“We are grateful for the great support from GRL, and we’d also like to thank VESA for implementing stricter criteria that will make a real difference to creators. ASUS is proud that its ProArt Display PA32UCX is the very first recipient of the new DisplayHDR 1000 CTS 1.1 certification. The mission of ASUS ProArt displays is to use the latest and most advanced technology to power up creators’ imaginations. In addition to a wide color gamut, higher contrast, and more accurate colors, ASUS ProArt displays introduce features such as mini‑LED backlights, ASUS Smart HDR technology with Dolby Vision support, along with HDR‑10 and HLG HDR formats. With ProArt products, creators only need to focus on their work, and ProArt displays help with the seamless creation of their masterpieces,” said Nicky Lin, ASUS ProArt Product Director of ASUS Display Business Unit.

“VESA’s DisplayHDR standard has become the widely adopted HDR standard for personal computer monitors since its initial introduction two years ago. With the recently published version 1.1 update, we expect to see many more displays certified to this more rigorous test specification, resulting in even more life-like and consistent HDR experiences for consumers,” said Bill Lempesis, executive director, VESA. “We appreciate ASUS embracing this updated DisplayHDR test specification, and GRL’s technical leadership working with VESA to successfully deploy the DisplayHDR compliance program.”
