GRL Expands Automotive Capabilities to Gigabit Ethernet over Plastic Optical Fiber (GEPOF)

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity, today announced expansion of its automotive test services and solutions portfolio, becoming the first independent lab to offer Gigabit Ethernet over Plastic Optical Fiber (GEPOF) test services for IEEE/ISO standards.  Leveraging deep expertise in the widely-deployed automotive Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) technology, GRL is well-positioned to support the automotive industry transition to GEPOF and enable wide-scale deployment of reliable GEPOF technology.

Today’s consumers demand more electronic devices in cars, such as anti-collision sensors, media players, and navigation systems. This trend has led to the deployment of POF in automotive networks. Based in Madrid, KDPOF has led the development of a high spectral efficiency communication technology that exploits the available capacity of large core Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) and provides a physical layer of 1 Gbps Ethernet within the MOST fiber and connectors.

In addition to early support of GEPOF, GRL now plays a leading role in standards for automotive networking, infotainment, and charging, supporting hundreds of customers across the industry from convenient world-wide labs.  GRL’s automotive offerings include official certification, conformance, interoperability and troubleshooting for:

  • Networking including GEPOF and 10/100/1000 Automotive Ethernet
  • USB including USB Type-CTM and Apple MFi Automotive
  •  Display/infotainment including MIPI, DisplayPort/embedded DP, and HDMI
  •  Power and Charging including USB Power Delivery, Qualcomm QuickCharge 4/4+, and Qi Wireless
  •  IoT standards including OPEN Alliance and OCF Automotive
  •  Proprietary and custom technologies for sensing, control, safety, display, networking and power.

“We deeply appreciate having in GRL a highly-reputed independent test lab delivering conformance and interoperability testing services for GEPOF technology,” said Carlos Pardo, CEO, KDPOF. “GRL’s test expertise, solutions portfolio, and global footprint will help car manufacturers and OEMs integrate and rapidly deploy GEPOF technology along with its numerous benefits.”

“We are very excited to offer conformance and interoperability test services for GEPOF in cooperation with KDPOF,” said Vamshi Kandalla, GRL Executive Vice President and General Manager.  “GRL leverages deep expertise in high speed networking, display, charging, and signal and power integrity to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for automotive design validation, helping hardware developers confidently deploy robust, interoperable products that meet the rigorous demands of automotive applications.”

GRL will showcase its GEPOF test setup and other automotive services and solutions at the following upcoming automotive technology events:

Oct 9-10, at the 2018 IEEE Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day in the Olympia, London, UK (booth #19)
Oct 23-25, 2018 at Automotive Testing Expo, Novi, Michigan, USA (booth #13046

We invite you to meet GRL representatives and discuss how GRL’s Automotive Test Services and Solutions can help you successfully deploy your automotive design.  For inquiries and testing submissions, please contact us.
