GRL Opens a New Lab in Japan

Offering official USB logo certification and extensive engineering services

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for high speed connectivity, today announced the opening of its new lab located in Shin-Yokohama, Japan.  GRL Director of Signal Integrity Engineering Miki Takahashi, recipient of the SD Association 2014 Innovation and Technology Award, will provide overall technical leadership.

GRL Japan has been authorized by the USB-IF to provide official USB logo certification testing, following an agreement with XXCAL Japan to transfer its USB business to GRL.  XXCAL Japan principal USB test engineers have joined GRL Japan.

GRL Japan will also offer official certification testing, pre-compliance, and debugging support focused on high speed interfaces including DisplayPort, PCI Express, DDR, SD Card/UHS-II, SATA, CFast, HDMI, MIPI and 10G/40/100G Ethernet.  In addition, GRL brings to Japan industry leadership in USB Type-CTM, USB Power Delivery, and the emerging Internet of Things (IoT), as well as deep expertise in signal integrity and protocol analysis.

GRL will focus on the entire Japanese hardware ecosystem, from IC developers to manufacturers, offering services that extend well beyond the traditional “test lab”, such as electrical characterization and debugging of early silicon across process, voltage, and temperature (PVT), signal and power integrity validation and consultation, and turnkey product design services.  GRL has supported a growing number of Japan-based customers since opening a local sales office in 2013.

“GRL has an excellent reputation for supporting early specifications,” said Katsumi Ando, Manager, IP Design Department II of Socionext Inc., a system-on-chip (SoC) company formed in March 2015 from the consolidation of the system LSI businesses of Fujitsu Limited and Panasonic Corporation.  “We expect their expertise and lab capabilities will be a valuable resource for the entire semiconductor product market in Japan.”

GRL’s new lab will feature state-of-the-art test equipment from Keysight Technologies and BitifEye test automation solutions.  “Like Keysight, GRL stays at the forefront of new connectivity standards and we are very pleased that they have selected our equipment for their new lab in Japan,” said Atsuki Okazaki, Oscilloscope Marketing Development Manager of Keysight Technologies.

“We are very excited to expand GRL’s presence in Japan,” said Johnson Tan, co-Founder and CEO of Granite River Labs.  “Japanese hardware developers maintain legendary standards for design and performance, placing strong emphasis on validation at every stage of the product lifecycle.  These values match well with GRL’s deep engineering expertise and industry leadership in new and emerging technologies.”
